What is Acne?

Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States, affecting up to 50 million Americans annually. Genetics, anxiety, stress, hormones, and even hot and humid climates can impact the severity of acne, which can occur at various stages of life. Which includes seeing acne into your 30’s and 40’s.

For ages 12 to 24, approximately 85% of people experience at least minor acne. In 2013, more than 5.1 million people sought medical treatment for acne. According to the Mayo Clinic, acne is simply the skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Which then causes whiteheads, blackheads, or pimples to show.

Acne Treatment that is light years ahead

Koniver Aesthetics was the first in the state of South Carolina to offer the revolutionary acne treatment, AviClear™. It is the first and only FDA-cleared energy device for the treatment of mild to severe acne.

AviClear™ uses the power of laser light to selectively target and suppress sebaceous glands, eliminating acne at the source without the need for prescription medications. Clinical trials demonstrate that current and future breakout episodes are shorter, less intense, and more infrequent following the AviClear™ procedure. Further, acne clearance results continue to improve over time, demonstrating the long-term efficacy of the treatment.

The treatment uses a 1726 nm wavelength, which safely and effectively targets and suppresses the sebaceous gland.

What to Expect

AviClear™ is a first of its kind treatment. When you come in you will be asked to download the AviClear™ app. That is where you will get your codes for the 3 treatment series. Then we will have you wash your face with Dawn™ Dish soap.

Once your provider brings you back, you will be given a blanket and neck rest to make you feel comfortable during the treatment. You will also be offered Pro-Nox™ to help with any discomfort. This is optional, not everyone will need the Pro-Nox™, but it is helpful.

The full treatment lasts about 45 minutes. It is recommended to be done in a series of three, spaced at least a month apart.

Acne Treatment Guidelines

In clinical studies, AviClear™ showed to have zero non-responders and did not show to have any reportable adverse side effects. This treatment has no down time and allows patients to resume their day as planned after treatment. It is recommended to wear sunscreen after your treatment and try to stay out of the sun.

Acne Treatments: FAQs

What is AviClear™?
It is a 1726 nm wavelength laser treats acne at the source by selectively targeting and suppressing the sebaceous gland safely and effectivey.

What is your sebaceous gland?
The sebaceous gland is an integral part to the structure and function of the skin, providing 90% of its surface lipids. These glands mainly produce sebum, which helps to seal in moisture. Because sebaceous glands empty into the hair canal, sebum mostly escapes onto the skin surface. The sebaceous glands are located in the mid-dermis and almost always develop alongside a hair follicle.

What about skin care products?
Topical skincare products are generally the first line of defense against acne, as they can be used every day, versus in-office treatments which are only done periodically. We will discuss all skincare products with you at the time of your consultation, as well as sun exposure and sunscreen after treatment.

What is acne?
Acne is a skin condition that occurs when oil-based secretion accumulates between the skin layers and becomes infected with microorganisms over time as a result of the occlusion of the channels where the sebaceous glands secrete.

What causes acne?
Ance occurs when the sebum-secreting ducts become blocked, swollen, and then inflamed with bacteria. As a result of increased oil secretion in the skin and clogging of the pores, blackheads occur.
