What are Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel improves the appearance of the skin by exfoliating, accelerating cell turnover, removing damaged top layers, and boosting collagen growth. The new, regenerated skin is substantially smoother, healthier looking, more uniform in tone and less wrinkled. The face, neck, chest and hands are the most commonly treated areas for chemical peels.

In addition to improving the overall complexion, chemical peels can also help with hyperpigmentation, sun damage and melasma. The complexion is brighter, tighter and smoother after just one peel, and optimal results are achieved with four to six peels.

Skin Peels Treatment Options

At Koniver Aesthetics Charleston, you can find the best chemical peels treatments options. We offer multiple premier medical-level chemical peels to address a full array of skin issues. Peels can be done at different depths – light, medium or deep – depending on your desired results. During your consultation, your practitioner will help you determine which peel is best suited to your goals and lifestyle. Treatment options include:

Obagi Blue Peel Radiance® is a quick and superficial chemical peel, revealing healthier, younger-looking skin with minimal downtime. The peel contains salicylic acid, a blend of lactic and glycolic acids and extra calming agents like willow bark and licorice root to help soothe and nurture your skin. It is ideal for sensitive skin, acne prone skin (including in teenagers), or those who want a little pick-me-up.

Perfect Derma™ Peel is a safe, effective medium-depth peel for all skin types and ethnicities. It is virtually painless, requiring no pre-peel skin preparation. Perfect Derma is the only peel that includes the powerful anti-oxidant glutathione, which lightens and brightens skin, slows the aging process and helps prevent wrinkles. This medical-grade formulation exfoliates and helps improve overall complexion, providing firmer, smoother, brighter-looking skin after just one treatment.

SkinBetter AlphaRet Peel® is a quick peel designed for patients with mild photo damage, early signs of skin aging, or blemishes. The AlphaRet Peel® contains a proprietary blend of lactic, glycolic, and salicylic acids with a patented retinoid alpha hydroxy acid conjugate. This combination is unique to SkinBetter Science. It improves erythema (redness in the skin), fine lines, skin tone, texture and pore size with very little to no irritation. We offer two strengths, 30% and 50%. The 30% is gentler with no after-effects, and the 50% is stronger but may result in mild peeling and flaking for a day or two, depending on your skin condition.

What to Expect

During the treatment, your practitioner will apply the selected product to your skin and allow it to penetrate. You may feel a mild to moderate stinging while the solution is on your skin. After the appropriate treatment time has elapsed, your practitioner will apply cool compresses or a neutralizing solution, depending on the type of peel used. Deeper peels may be applied to smaller areas of the face at a time.

After your treatment, you may feel tingling, burning, itching, dryness, redness or tightness, depending on your skin’s sensitivity and the depth of the peel. You will see peeling or flaking over the next 1-7 days as thin sheets of epidermis are sloughed off. Medical grade moisturizer available at Koniver Aesthetics will reduce the visibility of peeling by hydrating the skin. Avoid heavy exercise and excessive sweating during the healing process.

When should I avoid a peel?
If the peel site is suffering from an infection, disease or chronic skin condition such as psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, or rosacea, or if the peel site has a cut, broken skin or sunburn, you may not be a good candidate for a peel at that time. Please discuss with us at your consultation.
