What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliation treatment that utilizes a sterile surgical scalpel to painlessly eliminate dead skin cells and fine hairs (commonly referred to as peach fuzz) on the face.

Over time, dead skin cells can build up, resulting in the skin feeling dry and rough. Dermaplaning can reveal the smooth, healthier skin that lies beneath these skin cells, while also eliminating pore-clogging debris. The treatment also helps diminish the look of fine wrinkles and acne scars by removing the top layers of the skin. Along with the removal of peach fuzz, patients can enjoy softer, smoother skin with a more even tone.

Why should I consider a Dermaplaning treatment?

Dermaplaning provides painless exfoliation with no downtime and is a great option for people with sensitive skin who are looking for a deep exfoliation. It can be performed prior to treatments like facials, laser, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels to enhance the effects of those treatments. The procedure can be done as often as you wish to maintain optimal results.

Dermaplaning can be used on any skin type and help with the following conditions:

    • acne scars
    • dull skin
    • dry skin
    • sun-damaged skin
    • fine wrinkles

Your skin is exposed daily to environmental toxins, irritants, and UV rays from the sun that can cause the top layer of your skin to appear dull and aged. Dermaplaning clears away those damaged skin cells so newer, fresher cells take their place.

What can I expect during a Dermaplaning treatment?

Your aesthetician at Koniver Aesthetics will use a manual Dermaplaning tool to scrape over your skin at a 45-degree angle in short, swift strokes for about 20 to 30 minutes. During the procedure, you won’t feel any pain, but you may feel a tingling sensation. After the treatment is finished, we’ll help soothe your skin with aloe and sunscreen.

Although no downtime is needed after a Dermaplaning treatment, you may experience redness or mild irritation for two to three days following the procedure.

Skin may look brighter immediately after treatment, but it often takes a few days to see the full results, especially as any redness subsides. You’ll even notice that makeup goes on much smoother and more evenly. Results of Dermaplaning aren’t permanent, however. After three weeks to a month, your results will start to fade.

Dermaplaning FAQ. Three things to know!

How is dermaplaning different from microdermabrasion?

Dermaplaning and microdermabrasion are both exfoliating skin treatments that smoothe your skin. Dermaplaning uses a knife’s edge to remove dead skin cells, while microdermabrasion “sands down” the skin using an abrasive surface.

Both procedures are similar in their results, costs, and possible side effects. However, microdermabrasion tends to require several rounds of treatments, with results that can last several months as opposed to a few weeks with Dermaplaning.

How many Dermaplaning sessions will I need?

Most people are happy with the results of one treatment. Results typically last about three weeks to a month, and treatments can be done as often as you want.

How much does Dermaplaning cost?

Dermaplaning isn’t covered by insurance, and treatments are charged per session. Sessions generally cost around $200 each but can vary depending on each individual. Your aesthetician at Koniver Aesthetics will evaluate your situation and discuss pricing with you before treatment.
