What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. It’s also called microplaning or blading.

Dermaplaning aims to make your skin’s surface smooth, youthful, and radiant. This treatment removes “peach fuzz,” the short, soft hairs on your face, and it can also remove dull, dry skin, sun-damaged skin, fine wrinkles, deep scarring from acne and uneven pockmarks on your skin.

Your skin is exposed daily to harsh environmental toxins, irritants, and sun damage. This can cause the top layer of your skin to appear dull, and it can make you look aged. Dermaplaning clears away those damaged skin cells to reveal the newer skin cells beneath.

What to Expect

During a dermaplaning procedure, you shouldn’t feel any pain. You may feel a tingling sensation during the treatment.

During your treatment, your skin will be appropriately cleansed and prepared. Using a dermaplaning tool (a special surgical blade), your clinician will physically exfoliate the top layer of the skin, removing dead skin cells and vellus hair.

Afterward, your skin will be replenished and hydrated, and protected with an SPF. Treatments typically take 30 minutes.

Treatment Guidelines

Refrain from using retinols, alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids or any other exfoliating products one week prior to receiving this treatment. These products are chemical exfoliators, and thin the skin, which could result in over exfoliation and increased sensitivity when combined with dermaplaning.

Avoid sun exposure prior to your treatment. Sun burned skin cannot be treated.

Results

Dermaplaning leaves the skin looking fresh and vibrant, and also increases the efficacy of your medical grade skincare products by boosting their absorption.

Disclaimer: Every patient is different, and results may vary due to a number of factors. During your consultation, we will discuss with you the results you can expect and create a custom treatment plan for you.

Dermaplaning: FAQs

Am I a good candidate for dermaplaning?

The ideal candidate for dermaplaning has aging, dry, rough, or uneven skin tone. Dermaplaning can also help reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation.

Will it make the hair on my face grow back thicker and darker?

No. The soft and fine vellus hair on the face grows back at the same rate and texture.

Can dermaplaning be combined with other treatments?

Yes! When combined with a chemical peel or DiamondGlow™, dermaplaning will increase effectiveness. By removing the initial layer of dead cells on the surface of the skin, dermaplaning helps these treatments to penetrate deeper into the dermis. The conjunction of dermaplaning and a chemical peel or DiamondGlow™ treatment leaves the skin refreshed and rejuvenated. Together they promote new skin growth and target problems such as aging, sun spots and environmental damage.
