Laser resurfacing is a skin-rejuvenating procedure that uses a laser to improve the appearance of your skin while treating wrinkles, fine lines, loose skin, age spots, acne scars, sun damage, surgical scars, rosacea, broken blood vessels and more.
The technique directs short, and concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregularities on the surface of your skin. By resurfacing your skin, this advanced laser technology stimulates growth of new healthy skin cells from the inside out.
Koniver Aesthetics offers advanced laser skin resurfacing in Charleston with several premier technologies. During your consultation, your practitioner will help you determine which treatment is best suited to your goals and lifestyle. Treatment options include:
CoolPeel™ – advanced skin rejuvenation for use anywhere on the body – uses the brand new CO2 laser technology, the best ablative laser available, to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, diminish sun damage, minimize pores, all while improving skin texture with little to no downtime.
The gold standard in the treatment of wrinkles, signs of aging, skin texture, and other skin imperfections, Tetra CO2 Laser is the only laser technology that can perform CoolPeel™ procedures with its unique pulse control. The high-peak power, short pulse delivers a fractional ablative treatment without thermal (heat) damage to the surrounding tissue. No thermal damage means downtime is highly controlled and minimized while impressive, superficial skin-resurfacing results are delivered.
Denave is a laser designed to treat redness, flushing and broken capillaries. It is a 585nm wavelength and is the new gold standard for management of cosmetic vascular conditions like Rosacea, Poikiloderma, hemangiomas and redness associated with sun damaged skin.
Before treatment, your practitioner will review the benefits and possible side effects. Your skin will be cleansed and topical numbing cream may be applied, depending on the procedure. Then your practitioner will direct the laser onto your skin, controlling strength and depth precisely based on your treatment plan. After the treatment, post procedure products will be applied to the skin.
During the treatment, comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation lasts only while the energy is being delivered. At Koniver Aesthetics, your comfort level is a priority for us. We have found the PRO-NOX™ Nitrous-Oxide (50% Oxygen and 50% Nitrous Oxide mixture) delivery system to be successful in helping relieve anxiety and pain in our patients. PRO-NOX™ is patient-controlled inhaled analgesia which takes effect in seconds, offering immediate easing of pain and anxiety. Since it is patient controlled, you can respond to your pain and anxiety when you need it and, it has the benefit of being a short duration. PRO-NOX™ clears from the body in minutes.
Treatment and recovery times vary based on the technology chosen, the intensity of the treatment, and your individual healing characteristics. Some patients are able to resume normal activities immediately, however if your skin is sensitive, you may experience a few days of redness and puffiness post-treatment.
Pre-Treatment Instructions:
You may not be treated within 3 months of being on Accutane.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure.
Do not use medications that are photosensitizing at least 72 hours before treatment.
Avoid products with active ingredients for 3-5 days before treatment.
You may not be treated if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Post-Treatment Instructions:
Avoid exercise for 24 hours.
Immediately after procedure, skin will be red and feel like a sunburn. Over the next few hours, the redness will subside.
In 24-48 hours, the skin will have a “sand paper” texture that will slough off in 5-7n days.
Use gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Do not manually exfoliate the skin.
You may resume your skin care products with active ingredients after 5-7 days.
After treatment, your skin will start to feel softer, look brighter and show more even tone. Results will continue to improve over the next several weeks and can last for months or years depending on age, skin condition and how you protect your skin.
Effects will be visible after a single session, but you may need three to six sessions spaced about one month apart to achieve optimal results.
Disclaimer: Every patient is different, and results may vary due to a number of factors. During your consultation, we will discuss with you the results you can expect and create a custom treatment plan that’s right for you.
Our experienced doctors will create a custom laser skin resurfacing plan that’s right for you in our Koniver Aesthetics Charleston, SC Clinic.
Can I combine laser resurfacing with other procedures?
Each procedure has its own benefits. Laser resurfacing can be complementary to other cosmetic procedures, such as dermal fillers or neurotoxins. Talk to us at your consultation about how to maximize the benefits with other procedures. For example, we love combining the Cool Peel laser with our RF Microneedling treatment Virtue. This treatment combo is perfect for stimulating deeper neocollagenesis (with the Virtue) which assists in healing the surface damage from the Cool Peel. Similarly, we love using the Diamond Glow facial prior to laser treatments as they increase hydration in the skin.
Are there any issues that would make it a bad time for this procedure?
This procedure may not be suitable for people with sunburn or who plan an outdoor activity immediately following treatment. Also, people with an active herpes outbreak should avoid the procedure.
At what age is it appropriate to have facial laser resurfacing?
Whatever your age, sun exposure, environmental conditions, and lifestyle can contribute to lackluster skin. You can prolong your youthful looks, address early aging signs, and correct pigmentation problems or acne scarring with this procedure.
