What is Qwo®?

We’re so excited to introduce Qwo® (the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment for moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women) to our patients and to our portfolio. Why are we so excited? Because Qwo® focuses on reducing visible cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. And we know how frustrating cellulite can be.

There are three things that cause cellulite’s signature dimples: over time, our skin thins, our fat cells enlarge and push against the skin, and the fibrous bands under our skin’s surface thicken and cause tension.

Qwo® is made from enzymes called collagenases. These enzymes are thought to target the structural causes under the skin, where cellulite starts. It’s thought that Qwo® works by releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the growth of new collagen, which gives our fat lobules a chance to reorganize, redistribute, and spread more evenly. These changes reduce tension and help thicken the dermis, which creates a smoother appearance.

What to Expect

Qwo® is a non-surgical treatment performed in our office, with injections taking approximately 10 minutes (laying down). You’ll receive three Qwo® treatments spaced 21 days apart, with final results visible 28 days after the last treatment.

A treatment of Qwo® is defined as a single buttock receiving up to 12 injections. (For a maximum of 24 injections for both buttocks.)

Treatment Guidelines

Qwo® cannot be performed on patients who are currently on blood thinners.

To receive Qwo®, you must be able to commit to a full series of three treatments, spaced 21 days apart. You will begin to see results after the first treatment, but the desired effect will not be achieved until you’ve completed the series. If you have more than 24 dimples, you will need 2 separate series of Qwo® treatments.

Following the first treatment, you will develop eggplant-like bruising. This will begin 3-6 days after treatment and be most severe during that time, and it can last up to 2 weeks. Bruising after subsequent treatments is less severe.
